Republic of Côte d'Ivoire
Brazil recognized the independence of Côte d'Ivoire in 1960. The Embassy of Brazil in Abidjan was opened in 1969, and the Embassy of Côte d'Ivoire in Brasília was established in 1971.
Overcoming the Ivoirian post-electoral crisis in 2010-2011 enabled the resumption of bilateral cooperation initiatives and the exchange of high-level bilateral visits. More recently, the end of Brazil's suspension of cocoa beans imports from Côte d'Ivoire and the renegotiation of the Ivorian debt (2018) added new impetus to bilateral relations at the economic and commercial levels.
Highlights in the field of technical cooperation include bilateral projects aimed at genetic improvement and increased production of cotton in Côte d'Ivoire as well as a trilateral project benfiting Ivorian institutions in the area of school nutrition, with the participation of the World Food Programme’s Center of Excellence against Hunger, based in Brasília.
