Barbados
The relations between Brazil and Barbados are marked by the fluidity of the political dialogue, the dynamism and the shared interest in exploring opportunities for technical cooperation.
Through the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), in recent years Brazil has carried out several initiatives with Barbados, which has hosted workshops with the participation of other Caribbean countries. In the field of health, for example, workshops on human milk banks held in partnership with the ABC and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation have been instrumental in expanding these initiatives in the Caribbean vicinity.
Following the closing of the Brazilian embassies in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the embassy of Brazil in Barbados became concurrently accredited to those countries.
In 2019, bilateral trade totaled $ 16.9 million. Brazilian exports to Barbados amounted to $ 16.8 million, while imports totaled $ 0.1 million. The bilateral trade balance is favorable to Brazil, with a surplus of $ 16.7 million.
Chronology of Bilateral Relations
2020 – The embassy of Brazil in Barbados concurrently represents Brazil to Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
2013 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados makes a working visit to Brasilia and São Paulo. She is accompanied by authorities from the Barbadian government and business delegation (September 17)
2010 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and ForeignTrade of Barbados participates in the 1st Brazil - Caribbean Community Summit, in Brasília
2010 – Opening of the Embassy of Barbados in Brasília
2008 – The Prime Minister of Barbados participates in the Latin America and Caribbean Summit on Integration and Development (CALC), on the Costa do Sauipe
2005 -- Creation of Readers program for Brazilian language and culture teaching at the University of the West Indies, Barbados campus
