Republic of Niger
Brazil and Niger established diplomatic relations on October 24, 1975. The Embassy of Brazil in Cotonou (Benin) is responsible, cumulatively, for the diplomatic representation to the Nigerien Government. The Nigerien Embassy in Washington, United States, is cumulatively responsible for Niger's diplomatic representation to the Brazilian Government.
Bilateral relations gained greater momentum following the visits to Brazil of President Mahmadou Issofou, to attend the Rio+20 Conference (2012), and of Niger's Foreign Minister Mohamed Bazoum (2013), during which the first bilateral agreement was signed, establishing a political consultations mechanism.
Within the scope of trilateral technical cooperation, Brazil and Niger share exchange partnerships in the area of school feeding, with the participation of the World Food Programme’s Center of Excellence against Hunger, based in Brasília.
