Republic of Mozambique
Brazil and Mozambique have maintained diplomatic relations since November 15, 1975, the year of Mozambican independence. On March 1, 1976, the Brazilian Embassy was opened in Maputo. In January 1998, the Mozambique Embassy was opened in Brasília.
The cultural, historical and linguistic ties between Brazil and Mozambique represent a platform for the development of bilateral relations and a basis for the two countries to recognize each other as privileged partners. The fruitful bilateral cooperation, the union between Brazil and the African country within the framework of the CPLP and the frequent mutual support in elections in international forums reflect the state of a shared friendship, which has permeated the evolution of political and historical context.
In 2017, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Brazil and Mozambique establishing a Political Consultations Mechanism. Mozambique is the largest beneficiary of Brazilian cooperation with funds from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) in Africa, covering diverse areas (health, agriculture, education, professional training, among others) and involving structuring projects.
Trade exchange between Brazil and Mozambique totaled $89.7 million in 2022, with a Brazilian surplus of $84.3 million (Source: Comex Stat – Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services).
