Republic of Moldova
Bilateral relations between Brazil and the Republic of Moldova were established in 1993.The Embassy of Brazil in Kiev (Ukraine) is cumulatively responsible for representing the country before the Moldovan government. Moldova has in general supported Brazilian candidates to international organizations. The two countries have negotiated a short-stay visa waiver agreement, which has already been unilaterally adopted by Moldova, since it has not been ratified by the Brazilian National Congress. In the field of foreign trade, highlight should be given to the Brazilian exports of meat to Moldova. In 2010, Air Moldova purchased an Embraer 190 jet in addition to an EMB 120 turboprop aircraft, already being operated in that country.
During the visit of the Brazilian ambassador in Kiev to Chisinau in February 2017, local authorities showed a great interest in hosting an exploratory trade mission from Brazil. In the political sphere, on the same occasion, the ambassador of Brazil proposed political consultations meetings held on a regular basis.
Brazil has had a favorable trade balance with Moldova, despite significant variations in the volume of annual transactions. Brazilian exports hit a record high of $56.5 million in 2014 but fell to $3.3 million in 2015. In 2020, bilateral trade reached $9.1 million (a decrease of 37% compared to 2019).
