Republic of Mali
Brazil and Mali established diplomatic relations in 1962. President Moussa Traoré’s visit to Brazil in 1981 was a milestone in the rapprochement between the two countries. On that occasion, the two countries decided to create a Joint Commission and signed an Agreement on Cultural, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.
The countries’ relations gained new momentum in the first decade of this century, with the opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Bamako (2008) and the Malian Embassy in Brasília (2011). There are bilateral and trilateral technical cooperation projects underway, with emphasis on the cotton sector, which is predominant in the Malian economy, as well as in the areas of livestock farming, fish farming, school nutrition, among others.
