Republic of Equatorial Guinea
Brazil and Equatorial Guinea established diplomatic relations on May 26, 1974. The Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Brasília was opened in 2005 and the Embassy of Brazil in Malabo opened in 2006.
In recent years, visits by high-level authorities and Equatorial Guinea's entry into the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (2014) contributed to boost bilateral relations. Since joining the CPLP, Equatorial Guinea has made efforts to promote the dissemination and teaching of the Portuguese language, which became one of the country's three official languages (alongside Spanish and French) in 2010.
Within the framework of the Educational Cooperation Agreement, Equatorial Guinean students have participated, since 2019, in the Undergraduate Agreement Student Program (PEC-G), through which they obtain a degree from Brazilian public universities. Brazil and Equatorial Guinea are also partners in trilateral technical cooperation projects under the auspices of the CPLP.
