Republic of Cabo Verde
Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Cabo Verde were established in 1975, the year of that country's independence, and are developed on several fronts, with bilateral cooperation as its central pillar.
The Basic Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Government of the Republic of Cabo Verde was signed in 1977 and entered into forcein 1980. Cabo Verde is one of our biggest partners in projects developed with funds from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), in areas such as health, education, agriculture and regulatory agencies. Since 1998, the Brazilian government has carried out more than 90 technical cooperation inititives with Cabo Verde.
The archipelago is also one of the major beneficiaries of opportunities offered by the Student Programs–Undergraduate Agreement (PEC-G) and Postgraduate Programs (PEC-PG). There is a significant number of Cabo Verdean authorities and personalities who had positive experiences in Brazilian universities. Since 2000, more than 3,000 Cabo Verdeans have benefited from the PEC-G.
In 2022, bilateral trade consisted largely of Brazilian exports, which totaled $30.6 million, an increase of 33% compared to 2021. Main Brazilian exports were rice (24%), sugar and molasses (15%), poultry meat (14%) and beef (11%). In the same year, Cabo Verde’s imports from Brazil amounted to $8,600 (Source: Comex Stat – Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services).
