Republic of Angola
Brazil was the first country to recognize the independence of Angola, in November 1975.The Embassy of Brazil in Luanda was created by a decree in December 1975.
In 2010, diplomatic relations were raised to the level of strategic partnership. On the African continent, Brazil maintains mechanisms of this level only with Angola and South Africa. The partnership is coordinated and established by the High Level Bilateral Commission, presided by the respective foreign ministers.
Angola is home to the largest Brazilian community on the African continent, with nearly 15,000 people. Many of these compatriots are settled in that country for years, being an integral part of the Angolan society with which they have work and family ties.
Angolan’s great interest in visiting, studying and working in Brazil has made the Embassy of Brazil in Luanda the second largest post of the Brazilian consular network abroad in terms of number of visas granted.
Angola is one of the largest trading partners of Brazil in Africa. In 2021, Brazilian exports to Angola totaled $408 million and imports amounted to $169 million. Brazilian exports include meat (15%), refined sugar (10%) and land vehicles (10%) while imports consist of petroleum (72%) and natural gas (27%).
Brazilian stock of investments in Angola reached $612 million by the end of 2020, according do data from the Brazilian Central Bank.

2022 – Third meeting of Brazil-Angola High Level Bilateral Commission (Luanda, June 1st).
2022 – Second (virtual) meeting of the Joint Committee on the Cooperation and Investment Facilitation Agreement (ACFI) (3 February).
2021 – Vice President of the Republic Hamilton Mourão, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, visit Angola in the context of the 13th Conference of the CPLP Heads of State and Government. On the occasion, the vice- president held a bilateral meeting with President João Lourenço, and Minister Carlos França held a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Téte António (July 16 and 17).
2020 – Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, Manuel Augusto Domingos (Brasília, March 2)
2019 – Minister Ernesto Araújo visits Angola (December 12)
2019 – Angolan Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto represented President João Lourenço at the inauguration ceremonies of President Jair Bolsonaro and held a bilateral meeting with Minister Ernesto Araújo (January 1).
2018 – Visit of Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira to Angola, when he met with Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto and was received in audience by President João Lourenço (February 9).
2016 – Minister of Foreign Affairs José Serra holds meetings with his counterparts of Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique and with the Secretary-General of the CPLP (October 30)
2016 – Angola’s Vice President Manuel Domingos Vicente headed his country's delegation to the 11th Conference of the CPLP Heads of State and Government, held in Brasília (October/November).
2016 – Minister Mauro Vieira pays an official visit to Angola, when he presides, along with Minister Georges Chikoti, the meeting of Brazil-Angola Bilateral High-Level Commission (April 13-14)
2015 – The Vice President of the Republic, Michel Temer, represented Brazil at the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Independence of Angola, as well as at the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters of its National Assembly (November).
2015 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Georges Chikoti, makes an official visit to Brazil in the context of the celebrations of the 40 years of Brazil's recognition of the Independence of Angola and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (November 12-13)
2015 – Minister Mauro Vieira makes an official visit to Angola, when he signs the Cooperation and Investment Facilitation Agreement between Brazil and Angola with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Georges Chikoti (April 1st)
