Kingdom of Lesotho
Brazil and Lesotho established diplomatic relations in 1970. The Brazilian Embassy in Maputo (Mozambique) was cumulatively responsible for representing Brazil before Lesotho until 1997, when this responsibility was transferred to the Brazilian Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa). Lesotho's Ambassador to the United States of America is also a non-resident Ambassador to Brazil.
In 2010, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lesotho, Mohlabi Kenneth Tsekoa, was received in Brasília. It was the first visit of a Lesotho’s Foreign Minister to Brazil. On the occasion, the two countries signed a Framework Agreement on Technical Cooperation, which is already in force. There is a potential for cooperation in the areas of education, HIV/AIDS, tourism, agriculture, water resources, poverty reduction, and sports.
Lesotho is a member of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), with which MERCOSUR has signed a tariff preference agreement (2009).
