Kingdom of Denmark
Relations between Brazil and Denmark are friendly and based on common interests and shared values. The first Brazilian diplomatic legation in Denmark was opened in 1828.
From an economic point of view, the main interests in the relations between Brazil and Denmark lie in investment attraction. Most of the bilateral trade occurs in the intra-firm modality, as demonstrated by the performance of the companies Maersk, Danfoss, Grundfos, Novo Nordisk and Coloplast. In trade, in 2019, the exchange between the two countries totaled $ 1.2 billion dollars. Brazilian exports amounted to $ 299 million and imports, $ 910 million. The list of Brazilian imports is based on pharmaceutical products, while its exports consist, above all, of food, pharmaceutical and wood products.
The two countries have agreements on cooperation, trade, investments, energy and the environment. Mutual interest in partnerships in the areas of science, technology and innovation is also growing. In 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Transformation was signed between the Danish Embassy and the Ministry of Economy. In addition, on the occasion of the visit of the Sailing Ship Cisne Branco, of the Brazilian Navy, to Denmark, there was a bilateral roundtable on maritime and polar cooperation, with the presence of several Brazilian and Danish authorities.
The Brazilian Embassy in Copenhagen has been dedicated to promoting Brazilian culture and reality, supporting cultural and academic events and promoting titles of literature of authors such as Clarice Lispector, Milton Hatoum and Cristóvão Tezza translated into Danish. Furthermore, Brazil has a Readership program of the Center for Brazilian Studies at the University of Aarhus. The Readership program is the only one in Scandinavia and it contributes positively to the teaching of Brazilian Portuguese and to the dissemination of the national culture.
