Islamic Republic of Mauritania
Brazil recognized the Independence of Mauritania on November 28, 1960. Diplomatic relations were established in 1961. Since the early 2000s the relationship has seen a significant improvement, with visits of hig-level authorities, the opening of the resident embassies in both capitals (in Brasília in 2008, and in Nouakchott in 2010) and the signing of agreements, including on technical cooperation, which allowed the two countries to put into practice initiatives in agriculture and medicine.

2012 - Signing of the Technical Cooperation Agreement (February). Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota visits Nouakchott, when three agreements are signed, including the Memorandum on the Creation of the Brazil-Mauritania Joint Commission (April). 2010 - Opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Nouakchott
2008 - Opening of the Embassy of Mauritania in Brasília
2007 - Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi meet on the sidelines of the 62nd UN General Assembly (September)
2005 - Prime Minister Sghair Ould Bareck, visits Brasília on the occasion of the First Summit of South America-Arab Countries (ASPA). On the sidelines of the Summit he is hosted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (May)
2005 - Minister of Science and Technology Eduardo Campos visits Mauritania
