Visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius – Brasília and São Paulo, April 7-11, 2015
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Linas Linkevicius, will make an official visit to Brazil between April 7 and 11, accompanied by a business delegation. This is the first ever visit to the country by a Lithuanian foreign minister.
On April 7, in Brasilia, Linkevicius will be received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira. They will examine issues on the bilateral agenda and explore ways to enhance cooperation, as well as discussing multilateral issues of mutual interest. On April 8 Minister Linkevicius will deliver a lecture at the Rio Branco Institute.
In São Paulo, on April 9, the Lithuanian foreign minister will participate in a seminar at FIESP and will meet with representatives of the state government. On April 10 he will give a lecture to students at the University of São Paulo (USP), and accompanied by the business delegation he will visit the 12th International Trade Fair for Automotive Parts, Equipment and Services (Automec). He will also officially inaugurate the Consulate General of Lithuania in São Paulo.
Brazil and Lithuania established diplomatic relations on December 9, 1921. Out of all the countries in the Americas, Brazil is home to the second-largest number of diaspora members of Lithuania.
Bilateral trade in 2014 exceeded $ 77 million. Brazil is currently Lithuania’s biggest trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean.
