Visit to Brazil of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, Khemaïes Jhinaoui – April 25-28, 2017
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, Khemaïes Jhinaoui, makes an official visit to Brazil between April 25 and 28. On April 26, the Tunisian Foreign Minister will chair, in Sao Paulo, the opening of the Economic Forum on Business Opportunities between Brazil and Tunisia. On the 27, in Brasilia, he will keep a working meeting with Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, with whom he will chair the opening ceremony of the Joint Commission Third Session. The program in Brasilia includes meetings at the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, as well as in the Ministries of Tourism; of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade; and of Social and Agrarian Development. Minister Jhinaoui may also give a lecture at the Rio Branco Institute about the democratic transition in his country.
In recent years, the bilateral relationship with Tunisia has been strengthened, with the intensification of missions in the most diverse areas. The visit of Minister Khemaïes Jhinaoui, the first of the Tunisian Foreign Minister to Brazil in more than ten years, as well as the holding of the Third Session of the Brazil-Tunisia Joint Commission, attest the new moment of relations. In addition to the themes of the international and regional agendas, opportunities for streamlining bilateral trade and investment flows will be discussed, as well as cooperation initiatives in areas such as social development, education, health and science and technology.
On the economic and trade front, Tunisia ranks as the 8th main destination for Brazilian exports to Africa. The bilateral trade flow in 2016 was US$245 million, with a Brazilian surplus of US$ 150 million. In December 2014, a Framework Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation was concluded between Mercosur and Tunisia.
