Visit to Brazil of Prime-Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mizengo Peter Pinda – October 4-10, 2011
The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania will make a working visit to Brazil, from 4 to 10 October 2011. The Tanzanian Head of Government will follow an extensive schedule in Brazil, which includes meetings in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília.
In São Paulo, the Tanzanian Prime Minister will hold meetings with representatives from the private sector, in areas such as machinery and equipment production, infrastructure and biofuels. In Rio de Janeiro, his schedule includes meetings with representatives from BNDES and Petrobras.
In Brasília, Prime Minister Mizendo Pinda will be received by Vice-President Michel Temer and by the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota. They will address bilateral affairs, especially cooperation on agriculture, energy, health and combat against child labor, in addition to common interest issues on the international agenda. The Tanzanian Prime Minister will also meet with the Minister of Agrarian Development, Afonso Florence, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Edson Lobão, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Mendes Ribeiro Filho. They will also visit the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and the National Supply Company (CONAB).
The visit of the Prime Minister of Tanzania takes place within a continuous development process of the bilateral relations which started with the opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam, in 2005. It also follows up on President Lula da Silva’s visit to Tanzania in July 2010 and on Foreign Minister Bernard Membe’s visit to Brazil, in September of the same year.
Bilateral trade between Brazil and Tanzania rose more than sixfold between 2004 and 2010, from US$ 8.23 million to US$ 52.12 million. In August 2011, Petrobras Tanzania began offshore drilling operations in the country.
