Visit to Brazil of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Norway – Brasilia, November, 16, 2015
The Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will visit Brazil between November 14-19, accompanied by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, and the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of Petroleum and Energy, of Climate and the Environment, and of Education and Research.
In Brasilia, on the 16th, the Crown Prince will be hosted by the Vice President of the Republic, Michel Temer. Prince Haakon's program also includes an event at the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry ( CNI ) and a meeting with students under the Science without Borders program. The Minister of Trade and the Deputy Ministers will keep working meetings with their Brazilian counterparts. Itamaraty will be hosting a bilateral political consultation meeting.
In Rio de Janeiro, on the 17th, the agenda of the Crown Prince includes meetings with state and municipal authorities, in addition to a business seminar, a visit to the Petrobras Research Center and the inauguration ceremony of the Norwegian Jotun factory.
In Belém, on the 18th and 19th, the Crown Prince has a scheduled meeting with the Governor of the State of Pará and visits to the Emílio Goeldi Museum, the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research and a sustainable chocolate production at the property of Dona Nena, in Combu.
Norway's importance as an economic and trading partner has been growing. In 2014, bilateral trade reached US$ 1.8 billion (a growth of 15% compared to 2008). More than one hundred Norwegian companies are established in Brazil, most notably in areas such as oil, gas and naval construction. In the last decade, Norway's direct investment stock in Brazil jumped from US$ 280 million, in 2005, to US$ 3.7 billion, according to data from the Brazilian Central Bank.
Bilateral cooperation increased in recent years, including priority sectors for the Brazilian Government, such as science, technology, innovation, energy and the environment.
Norway is the largest foreign contributor to the Amazon Fund, having donated US$ 882 million between 2009 and 2015.
Brazil and Norway have coordinated several actions in international organizations in areas such as privacy in the digital era, global health and the rights of indigenous peoples.
