Vaccine imports from India – Joint Press Release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health
The Brazilian Government, through the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs, clarifies that there is no official ban, by the Government of India, on the export of doses of vaccine against the new coronavirus that are produced by Indian pharmaceutical companies.
The negotiations between the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and the Serum Institute of India on the importation, by Brazil, of the initial quantity of doses of immunizers against Covid-19 are at an advanced stage, with a probable delivery date in mid-January.
The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Elcio Franco, met yesterday, January 4, with the Ambassador of India in Brasilia to discuss the issue. The Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi, in turn, is in permanent contact with Indian authorities to reinforce the importance of starting vaccination in Brazil.
In a joint press release issued today, January 5, the Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech expressed their firm intention to guarantee worldwide access to their vaccines against Covid-19. The CEO of the Serum Institute further clarified, publicly, that the export of vaccines produced in India is allowed to all countries.
