The Prime Minister of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis, to visit Brazil – 9 to 12 July 2011
The Prime Minister of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis, will visit Brazil from 9 to 12 July 2011. In Rio de Janeiro, he will meet with Latvian businesspeople and, in Nova Odessa, with the Latvian community. In São Paulo, on 11 July, he will participate in the 2nd Brazil-Latvia Business Forum, jointly organized with FIESP, and then he will visit the Port of Santos.
High-level contacts have strengthened the bilateral relationship. In May 2010, the Brazilian Minister of the Secretariat of Ports at the time visited Riga. In 2007, the Latvian President at that time, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, visited Brazil.
Brazil shelters one of the largest Latvian communities in the world, with 20 thousand Brazilians with ancestors from Latvia.
During the visit, the Latvian Prime Minister will attend a ceremony alluding to the start of the production, in Curitiba, of wireless telecommunication equipment with Latvian technology. Air and port cooperation agreements will also be signed.
In 2010, trade exchange between Brazil and Latvia reached US$ 41.7 million.
