The Prime Minister of Finland, Jyrki Katainen, to visit Brazil – Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, 12 to 16 February 2012
The Prime Minister of Finland, Jyrki Katainen, will make a visit to Brazil from 12 to 16 February. Accompanied by the Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Alexander Stubb, and by a significant business delegation, he will follow a program in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
In Brasília, on 13 February, Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen will be received by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Marco Antonio Raupp. On 14 February, he will be received by President Dilma Rousseff and hold talks with the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota. Brazil and Finland will go over perspectives to intensify cooperation on education, science, technology, innovation, energy and tourism. There is interest in promoting academic cooperation between both countries through the “Science without Borders” program.
They will also address the perspectives for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) and the use of mediation as an instrument for preventing international conflicts.
There is significant potential to enhance trade relations between Brazil and Finland. In 2011, bilateral trade reached a record US$ 1.47 billion. In the same year, Brazilian exports reached US$ 742.4 million, a 55.73% increase from 2010.
Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen will also meet the Governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, the President of the Central Bank, Alexandre Tombini, and the President of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Luciano Coutinho.
