The President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff, will visit Portugal on June 10, the Portuguese national day. In Lisbon, she will meet with President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho.
Following up on the close dialogue that has marked their bilateral relations, Brazil and Portugal will discuss the strengthening of trade flows and investment partnerships in infrastructure and of high-tech industries and knowledge-intensive initiatives. They will also assess the international economic outlook and the global agenda of international peace and security.
The visit of President Dilma Rousseff will take place at the closure of the "Year of Brazil in Portugal" and "Year of Portugal in Brazil", held between September 7, 2012, and June 10, 2013. The initiatives contributed to update the public about the diversity and dynamism of contemporary cultural production in both countries and to forge innovative partnerships in science and technology.
Together with President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President Dilma Rousseff will attend the award ceremony of the Camões Prize, which annually distinguishes an author who has contributed to the enrichment of the cultural and literary heritage of the Portuguese language. This year, the tribute will be made to the Mozambican Mia Couto.
Between 2004 and 2012, bilateral trade volume grew by 226% to over US$ 2.6 billion. Brazil is the seventh main source of foreign direct investment in Portugal and is the fourth main destination for Portuguese direct investment abroad.
