The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to visit Brazil – São Paulo, Brasília and Rio de Janeiro, October 7-11, 2012
The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, is visiting Brazil between October 7 and 11. Accompanied by the Minister for Trade and Development, Joe Costello, and a business delegation, he will follow a program in São Paulo, Brasília and Rio de Janeiro.
In Brasilia, on October 9, the Irish President will be hosted by President Dilma Rousseff. The leaders will assess prospects for the enhancement of trade relations, as well as for the improvement of educational cooperation between the two countries, under the "Science without Borders" program.
The Council of the European Union will be chaired by Ireland in the first half of 2013, when the next EU-Brazil Summit is expected to take place.
Between 2007 and 2011, bilateral trade flow between Brazil and Ireland rose from US$ 771.4 million to US$ 948.1 million. Between 2010 and 2011, bilateral trade increased by 27.5%.
