The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to visit Brazil – Belém, Itaguaí/RJ, São Paulo and Brasília, March 26th-28th, 2024
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will visit Brazil from March 26th to 28th. The French authority will follow a schedule that includes visits to Belém (March 26th), Itaguaí/RJ (morning of March 27th), São Paulo (afternoon of March 27th) and Brasília (March 28th). President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will accompany the visits in all cities except São Paulo.
In Belém, the Presidents will travel by boat through Guajará Bay, with a stop on Combu Island to visit the local community. In Itaguaí, the Presidents will see the launch of the Tonelero submarine (S42), the third of four conventionally propelled submarines developed within the scope of the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB). In Brasília, President Macron will be hosted at the Planalto Palace for a meeting and a signing ceremony, at the Itamaraty Palace for a luncheon, and at the National Congress.
In São Paulo, the French president’s program will inclulde sports, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation events. He will also attend the 5th Brazil-France Economic Forum and an event with the French community.
Relations between Brazil and France are founded on strong historical ties. France was the first European country to recognize the Brazilian independence, in 1825, establishing important political, cultural and economic ties with Brazil. President Lula visited France in June 2023, on the occasion of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact.
France is the third largest investor in Brazil, based on the ultimate controller criteria, with nearly $38 billion in investments. In 2023, bilateral trade reached $8.4 billion, inclulding $2.9 billion in Brazilian exports.
