The President of Benin, Patrice Talon, to visit Brazil – May 23-25, 2024
On May 23rd, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will host the President of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon, for an official visit to Brazil accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Olushegun Bakari; Minister of Economy and Finance Romuald Wadagni; and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Gaston Dossouhoui.
President Talon’s visit will include a working meeting and a signing ceremony. During the meeting, topics to be addressed include the state of bilateral relations, with emphasis on the significant technical cooperation agenda, and ways of strenghtening partnerships in agriculture, energy, culture, tourism, trade and investment, among other areas.
Within the context of the Brazilian G20 presidency, the two heads of state expect to discuss initiatives in combating hunger and poverty, climate change, in light of the upcoming COP30 in Belém (2025), and international governance reform, including the UN.
The presidential visit takes place just a few months after the reopening of the Embassy of Benin in Brasília, in February. In 2006, President Luiz Inácio da Silva was the first Brazilian president to visit Benin.
