The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, to visit Brazil – Brasilia, March 30, 2011
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, will pay an official visit to Brazil on March 30. The Norwegian Foreign Minister, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim, will hold a working meeting with Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota and will attend a Peace and Reconciliation Seminar. The Ministers will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Political Consultations.
The Norwegian Government has recently launched its “Brazil Strategy”, an initiative that assigns priority to the bilateral relation, encompassing areas such as economy, commerce, technology, culture, education and the environment.
In 2010, bilateral trade reached US$ 1.422 billion, with a small surplus for Brazil. The volume traded has risen 370% in comparison with 2002 figures. Norway is presently the 7th largest direct investor in the country.
