The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Børge Brende, to visit Brazil – Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, February 19-20, 2014
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Børge Brende, will visit Brazil on February 19-20. The Norwegian Foreign Minister will participate in scheduled events in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. On February 20, in Brasilia, he will hold a working meeting with the Foreign Minister, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, and the Chief Minister of the Secretariat for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic, Maria do Rosario Nunes.
The Foreign Ministers will address the expansion of bilateral trade and investment, and will also examine the main issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in energy, innovation, education, as well as fisheries and aquaculture.
They will also discuss the reform of global governance institutions and issues on the international peace and security agenda, including the situation in Syria and the Middle East, as well as themes related to the environment and the right to privacy in the digital age.
In 2013, bilateral trade reached US$ 1.7 billion. Norwegian investments in Brazil are particularly significant in the oil and gas sector. The Statoil company is the second largest producer of oil and gas in Brazil, after Petrobras.
