The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Grigol Vashadze, to visit Brazil – Brasília, August 25-26, 2011
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Grigol Vashadze, will make an official visit to Brazil on August 25-26. It will be the first visit by a Georgian Foreign Minister to Brazil.
On the 26, the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will hold a working meeting with Foreign Minister Vashadze. The two Ministers will go over the current stage of bilateral relationship, two decades after the proclamation of independence of Georgia. On the occasion of the visit, agreements will be signed on visa exemption for common and diplomatic passports and on technical cooperation, as well as on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between the two countries.
Trade exchange between the two countries reached US$ 107 million in 2010. Georgian exports comprise mainly fertilizers. Brazil is the 12th largest exporter to Georgia, in a mix that includes sugar, meat and chemical products.
The visit of the Georgian Foreign Minister will be the starting point for the establishment of wide-ranging trade relations, since the country has displayed its interest in soon sending business missions. It will also make possible for Brazil to strengthen ties to a key country in the south Caucasus. In 2011, Brazil opened an Embassy in Tbilisi and Georgia opened an Embassy in Brasília.
The Georgian Foreign Minister will also pay a courtesy call on the President of the External Relations and Defense Committee of the Senate, Senator Fernando Collor de Mello.
