The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin, Nassirou Bako-Arifari, to visit Brazil – Brasília, August 23-24, 2011
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin, Nassirou Bako-Arifari, will make his first visit to Brazil on August 23 and 24.
On the 23, the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, met with Minister Bako-Arifari to go over the main issues in the bilateral relation, which have been greatly enhanced since the opening of resident Embassies in Cotonou (em 2006) and in Brasília (in 2007). In 2010, bilateral trade reached US$ 103 million.
The 2nd Brazil-Benin Joint Commission will be held on the 23 and 24. The Brazilian and Beninese delegations will address the development of the ongoing technical cooperation projects – such as Cotton-4, which aims at strengthening cotton production by sharing technologies developed in Brazil. There is also ongoing cooperation in areas such as sickle-cell disease treatment, profession education for agricultural technology and cooperative associations, and management of tangible and intangible heritage. The delegations will assess the possibility of expanding bilateral partnerships to areas such as cooperation on port management and sports.
