The Minister of External Relations to visit Norway – Oslo, June 18-19, 2013
The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will visit Norway on June 18-19, 2013. In Oslo, he will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, the Minister for International Development, Heikki Holmås, and the Health Minister and former Chancellor, Jonas Gahr Støre.
At the invitation of the Norwegian Government, Minister Patriota will participate in the 10th edition of the Oslo Forum, which annually hosts debates on mediation and peaceful settlement of disputes. On this occasion, he will participate in the conference on the situation in Syria, "How to avoid sectarian conflagration." The Foreign Minister will also deliver a lecture at the The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) on the theme "The UN Security Council: a time for multilateralism, diplomacy and reform."
Ministers Patriota and Eide will discuss deepening bilateral partnerships in areas such as education, science, technology, trade and investment. They will also examine themes on the multilateral agenda as well as international peace and security issues.
In the margins of the Forum of Oslo, the Foreign Minister will meet with the Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis, Lakhdar Brahimi.
In 2012, trade between the two countries exceeded US$ 1.7 billion. The stock of Norwegian investments in Brazil increased 20 times between 2005 and 2010, reaching US$ 3.7 billion.
