48th G77/China Ministerial Meeting – New York, September 27
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, participated in the 48th Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 + China (G77/China), held in New York today, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Group was established in 1964 by 77 developing countries with the aim to join their efforts and to enhance their negotiating capacity in key forums of the United Nations system, thus promoting their collective interests on major international issues. Today, the Group brings together 135 member states, including China as an associate country. The G77/China also promotes South-South cooperation for development.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its establishment, the G77/China reaffirms its strategic importance in defending multilateralism, pursuing sustainable development, and building an international economic and trade system that fosters poverty eradication and the reduction of inequalities both within and among countries.
On the occasion of the 48th G77/China Ministerial Meeting, Minister Mauro Vieira highlighted the group’s strategic contribution to the implementation of Brazilian foreign policy objectives, such as the fight against climate change, the reform of the United Nations and the reform of the international financial system.
