The 11th Conference of the Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP)
The 11th Conference of the Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) will be held at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasília, on October 31 and November 1. The Conference will be preceded, in the morning of October 31, by the 21 st Meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers, bringing together Foreign Ministers of the Community.
The Conference marks the 20 th anniversary of the creation of the CPLP. Brazil will assume the 2016-2018 rotating presidency of the CPLP, after chairing the Community for the first time from 2002 to 2004.
Brazil has chosen the theme "The CPLP and the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development" for its presidency. The discussion on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals is one of the central themes of its current global agenda.
During the Summit, Brazil will release its working plan, which was based on consultations and contributions from various ministries and consists of actions and initiatives that Brazil seek to carry out during the period it will be leading the CPLP.
Established in 1996, the CPLP has nine member states: Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor. The aims of the Community are political and diplomatic coordination, cooperation in various sectors and promotion and dissemination of the Portuguese language.
