PRESS RELEASE NO. 106
Statement in support of Albert Ramdin’s candidacy for Secretary General of the OAS
After carefully examining the proposals put forward to the Organization of American States (OAS) for the upcoming succession in the Office of the Secretary General, the Governments of Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay hereby announce our endorsement of Surinamese Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin’s candidacy to lead the Organization for the 2025–2030 term.
Minister Albert Ramdin, with his extensive diplomatic background—including his previous role as Assistant Secretary General of the OAS—is uniquely positioned to address the contemporary challenges facing our nations, while offering a fresh perspective that reflects the realities and aspirations of both the Caribbean and the wider Americas.
This decision marks a significant step toward regional unity in the current geopolitical context, as well as a historic opportunity for the Caribbean, which would, for the first time, lead this vital space for hemispheric integration.
The vote to elect the next OAS Secretary General is scheduled for March 10.
