State visit of the President of the Republic to the People's Republic of China
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will make a State visit to the People's Republic of China from March 26 to 31, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. This is President Lula's third state visit to China, after those made in 2004 and 2009.
In Beijing, President Lula is scheduled to meet with President Xi, the Prime Minister of China, Mr Li Qiang, and the President of the National People's Congress, Mr. Zhao Leji. Issues of the broad bilateral agenda will be addressed on the occasion, including trade, investment, reindustrialisation, energy transition, climate change, and world peace and security.
In Shanghai, President Lula will visit the New Development Bank headquarters. Members of Brazil's National Congress, governors, State ministers and businessmen will compose the presidential delegation. Business events, seminars, and the signing of intergovernmental acts will take place during the visit.
China has been Brazil's largest trading partner and one of the main sources of foreign investments since 2009. Bilateral trade flow reached a record $150.5 billion in 2022. Brazil and China established a Strategic Partnership in 1993, elevated to Global Strategic Partnership in 2012. The two countries will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2024.
