State Visit of the President of the Republic to Sweden and Finland – October 18-20, 2015
President Dilam Rousseff will make a state visit to Sweden and Finland on October 18-20.
In Sweden, on the 18th, the President will hold meeting with King Carl XVI Gustaf. On the 19th, she is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and to visit the Saab factory facilities, in Linköping. On the same day, the President will participate in the meeting of the Brazil-Sweden Entrepreneurial Council and in the opening of the Brazil-Sweden Entrepreneurial Forum.
The visit to Sweden is aimed at expanding bilateral relations, through the adoption of the New Action Plan for the Strategic Partnership. Brazil's decision to purchase Gripen NG fighters, within the context of the FX-2 Program, has opened a new phase of the Strategic Partnership, with very positive prospects for growth of trade and investment flows and of cooperation in defense, science, technology, innovation and education. President Dilma and Prime Minister Löfven will also address themes including cooperation in renewable power sources, the environment, culture, in addition to exchanging views on regional and global subjects, such as the Mercosur-EU negotiations, climate change and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
More than 200 Swedish companies operate in Brazil, many of them in technology-intensive sectors, adding about 70,000 jobs to the country's economy. In 2014, trade between Brazil and Sweden reached US$ 2.1 billion.
On the 20th, the President will visit Finland, where she will have a meeting with President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä, in Helsinki. She is also scheduled to meet with Finnish entrepreneurs.
The visit to Finland has the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations in the areas of trade and investment, renewable energy, education, science, technology and innovation. The increase of partnerships in primary education is particularly promising in light of the renowned Finnish expertise. President Dilma and Prime Minister Sipilä will also address regional and global issues, such as the Mercosur-EU negotiations and the UN Security Council reform.
Nearly fifty Finnish companies operate in Brazil in the areas of energy, marine technology, telecommunications, paper and pulp, creating approximately 20,000 jobs in the country. In 2014, trade between Brazil and Finland totaled US $ 1 billion.
