State Visit of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, to Brazil – Brasília and São Paulo, May 8-9, 2013
The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, will visit Brazil on May 8-9, 2013. In Brasilia on May 8, he will be hosted by President Dilma Rousseff. This is the first visit by an Egyptian Head of State to Brazil.
The Presidents are expected to sign technical cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in the areas of agricultural and social development, among others.
The Presidents will examine the prospects for deepening bilateral relationship in light of the process of political and economic reforms in Egypt. They will discuss actions to increase the flow of bilateral trade and investment, and will also address issues on the regional and multilateral agenda.
From 2002 to 2012, the volume of trade between Brazil and Egypt grew seven times, increasing from US$ 410 million to US$ 2.96 billion. In the past two years, the bilateral trade flow grew by 38% (2011-2012). Brazilian companies have an interest in investments in energy and transportation infrastructure in Egypt, in addition to the opportunities offered by the largest consumer market in the Arab world.
