PRESS RELEASE N. 218
Spain, Ireland and Norway officially recognize the State of Palestine
The Brazilian government welcomes the official announcements made by Spain, Ireland and Norway on May 28th recognizing the State of Palestine. These countries add to more than 140 others, including, since 2010, Brazil.
The growing number of countries that recognize the State of Palestine is a significant historical advance in meeting the aspirations of that people for peace, freedom and self-determination.
Brazil urges all other countries that have not yet done so to recognize Palestine as a sovereign State. Brazil also reaffirms that it advocates for a two-State solution, with an independent and viable State of Palestine living side by side with Israel, in peace and security, within the 1967 borders, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
