PRESS RELEASE N. 100
Situation in Haiti
The Brazilian government is following with concern the severe deterioration of the public security situation in Haiti, which has led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the country.
Recalling its historical commitment to the stabilization of Haiti, Brazil calls upon the international community to urgently adopt concrete steps to support the country, in particular through the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2699 (2023), which establishes the Multinational Support Mission for Security in Haiti (MSS), as well as through actions aimed at the country's development.
The Brazilian government also reaffirms the importance of main Haitian political actors engaging in a national dialogue process, with the aim of holding elections as soon as security conditions allow for Haitian voters and candidates to properly participate in the democratic process.
The Brazilian Embassy in Port-au-Prince is in regular contact with the Brazilian community residing in Haiti. Until now, there is no record of Brazilians directly affected by the violence in the country.
