The President of the Republic signed the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, on April 22 at the U.N. headquarters in New York.
The Agreement, concluded in December 2015 at the Paris Climate Conference (COP21), draws a global response to climate change in keeping global average temperature below crucial levels. Within the scope of the United Nations, the Agreement marks a fair, ambitious, balanced and long-lasting turning point in international cooperation and support to the combat of climate change and the promotion of sustainable development, environment protection and eradication of poverty and hunger.
The signature represents Brazil's firm commitment with the Agreement and the initiation of the domestic ratification process aimed at securing/to secure its international entry into force.
