The Brazilian Government communicated today, January 5, to the member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), through the appropriate diplomatic channels, the the full and immediate reincorporation of Brazi to all bodies of the mechanism, both political and technical.
The extra-regional partners with whom CELAC has regular dialogue, including the European Union, China, India, ASEAN and the African Union, were also informed of the country's return to the regional consultation mechanism
Brazil participated directly in the creation of CELAC by convening and hosting the 1st Summit of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (CALC) in 2008 on the Sauípe Coast in Bahia State.
Formally established in February 2010, during the Unity Summit in Cancun, CELAC is composed of all 33 countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region. It is dedicated to promoting political dialogue, concertation and regional cooperation on a broad range of topics, including food and energy security, health, social inclusion, sustainable development, digital transformation and infrastructure for regional integration.
Brazil's return to the Latin American community of States is an indispensable step for the recomposition of our diplomatic heritage and for the full reintegration of the country into international conviviality.
At the invitation of President Alberto Fernández of Argentina, who holds the presidency pro tempore of the forum, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate in the VII Celac Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will be held in Buenos Aires on January 24.
