Resumption of diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The Brazilian Government welcomes the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for signing a historic agreement on March 10, with a view to restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopening their respective Embassies. 

Upon congratulating the People's Republic of China for its successful efforts in brokering the agreement, Brazil also recalls previous steps undertaken by the governments of the Republic of Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman in the process of rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia. 

The normalisation of diplomatic relations between the two countries signals a willingness to achieve a peaceful solution to regional challenges, as well as the willingness to dialogue as a way to promote stability in the Middle East.
