Presidential Elections in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela — Joint Statement by Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico
The governments of Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico extend their congratulations and express solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who turned out in large numbers on July 28th to determine their own future.
We are closely monitoring the vote counting process and urge the Venezuelan electoral authorities to proceed expeditiously and publicly release the disaggregated data by polling station.
Any disputes regarding the electoral process must be resolved through institutional channels. The fundamental principle of popular sovereignty must be upheld through impartial verification of the results.
In this context, we call on political and social actors to exercise utmost caution and restraint in their statements and public events, in order to avoid an escalation of violent incidents.
Maintaining social peace and protecting human lives must be the paramount concerns at this time.
Let this be an opportunity to reaffirm our absolute respect for the sovereignty of the will of the Venezuelan people. We reiterate our willingness to support dialogue efforts and the pursuit of agreements that benefit the Venezuelan people.
