Passing of the former President of the Portuguese Republic, Jorge Sampaio

The Brazilian government was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the former President of the Portuguese Republic, Jorge Sampaio, early today.

During the time he held the presidency of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio worked hard to strengthen the historical bonds between our two brother peoples. His work in favor of the integration of the Portuguese-speaking world was instrumental in creating the Community of Portuguese Language Countries.

The Brazilian government extends is heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of Portugal.
