Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota to visit Tunisia – Tunis, April 24-25,2012
The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will visit Tunisia on April 24 and 25, at the invitation of the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rafik Abdessalem. He will hold a working meeting with Foreign Minister Abdessalem and be hosted by President Moncef Marzouki and by the President of the National Constituent Assembly, Mustapha Ben Jaafar.
The popular protests in Tunisia, in December 2010, set in motion a pioneering process of democratic transition in the Arab world. The visit will present an opportunity to reaffirm Brazil’s support to the transition process in the country and to boost bilateral cooperation.
Brazil accounts for approximately 50% of Tunisia’s trade with South America. Between 2007 and 2011, trade exchange between the two countries rose 66%, from US$ 290 million to nearly US$ 481 million. In 2011, US$ 367 million in goods were exported to Tunisia, and US$ 104 million were imported.
