Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota to travel to Argentina – Buenos Aires, January 10, 2011
Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota will make a working visit to Buenos Aires, on January 10, to make preparations for the visit of President Dilma Rousseff to Argentina. It will be her first travel abroad since taking office on January 1, 2011.
Minister Patriota will hold a working meeting with Argentina’s Minister of External Relations, International Trade and Worship, Héctor Timerman, and will call on President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and other Argentine Government Ministers.
The two Foreign Ministers will go over the wide-ranging bilateral agenda and will exchange views on regional and global affairs.
Among the relevant items in the bilateral agenda, the Ministers will address the next steps in the Brazil-Argentina Integration and Coordination Mechanism (MICBA) which, under the guidance of both Foreign Ministries, provides for biannual presidential meetings to ensure political momentum to priority projects in the many cooperation areas.
The Ministers will further discuss strategies to bolster the close coordination between the two countries in multilateral and regional fora, with a view to the common goal of fostering regional integration, particularly MERCOSUR and UNASUR, strengthening multilateralism and actively contributing to democratize the global governance mechanisms.
Brazil is the prime destination for Argentine exports and is also Argentina’s main supplier. In 2010, bilateral exchange reached US$ 32.9 billion, topping the US$ 30.8 billion historic record of 2008. The bilateral commerce is characterized not only by its significant amount but also by the high rate of industrialized products with high added value, which reflects the growing integration of the productive chains between both countries.
