Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota will attend the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, in Santo Domingo, on August 16, representing the Brazilian Government. It will be the Foreign Minister’s first visit to the country.
The ceremony will take place at the National Congress, where President Danilo Medina will take an oath of office, followed by the compliments of foreign delegations.
Brazil is the sixth main exporter to the Dominican Republic. Between 2007 and 2011, Brazilian imports from this country rose by 53.1%. In the first half of 2012, bilateral trade reached US$ 234 million. The Dominican Republic receives official Brazilian financing in areas such as energy, transportation and sanitation. Brazilian companies invest in several sectors of the Dominican economy, such as construction, energy, beverages and air transportation.
