PRESS RELEASE N. 147
MERCOSUR countries together in climate change
The Brazilian government welcomes the announcement made at the Glasgow Climate Change Conference (COP 26), in Scotland, of the creation of the most recent climate change negotiation group, which will bring together Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The announcement has been made today, November 11, 2021, during a meeting of environment ministers of the four countries.
This is the first time that the four members of MERCOSUR channel their efforts into seeking common and effective solutions to the climate change issue. The four countries share values and common interests, evidenced by their broad coordination within the scope of MERCOSUR, a milestone in regional integration.
The Brazilian government congratulates the Government of Paraguay on this decision and reaffirms its strong commitment to climate action, to the acknowledgement of science as a fundamental pillar, to the importance of agriculture for global food safety and to the vital role of ecosystems in the sustainable development.
