Meeting between the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro and the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló
President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro received the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, General Umaro Sissoco Embaló, in an audience today at the Planalto Palace. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Carlos Alberto Franco França, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea-Bissau, Suzi Carla Barbosa, attended the meeting.
Presidents Bolsonaro and Sissoco Embaló reviewed the bilateral agenda, with a view to deepening political dialogue and technical cooperation between the two countries.
Guinea-Bissau is an important partner in Brazil’s South-South cooperation. Projects are currently being carried out in the fields of agriculture, health, training of diplomats, military personnel and security forces, as well as school meals, higher education, and water resources management. Since 2000, the Brazilian Ministry of Education’s Student Program Agreement has selected around 1,500 young university students from Guinea-Bissau.
Brazil and Guinea-Bissau are members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). Guinea-Bissau is also a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), an important African regional integration mechanism.
