PRESS RELEASE NO. 572
Joint press release by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) in defense of Brazilian agribusiness
With respect to the recent publication by Carrefour's Global CEO, Alexandre Bompard, on X social network, which contains misinformation and attacks the quality of Brazilian products, in addition to its retification in a letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, published today, the Brazilian government will remain vigilant in defending the image of the country and its production, in coordination with the private sector.
Brazil underscores the importance of the strategic partnership, trade flows and its historical ties with the European continent overall and with France in particular. Nevertheless, it will once again react firmly against any new campaign that targets the image of Brazilian products, especially agribusiness, whose standards of excellence throughout the entire production chain are recognized worldwide.
The leading position in the global food market, achieved with competitive, sustainable and, above all, high-quality products with strict health standards, is the result of the work of many generations of Brazilians. Thanks to these aspects and to the ability to fully meet the health requirements and controls from more than 160 countries, including the strict controls of the European Union, the Brazilian production will also overcome, as it has in the past, the current protectionist demonstrations founded on widespread campaigns, with no basis in facts, and on the systematic attack on the image of competing products.
The Brazilian government hopes that the companies that announced boycotts of Brazilian products reconsider these unfounded decisions and that all actors who have contributed to this disinformation campaign are aware of the negative consequences of their actions and take into account the serious impact that they may have on their relations with Brazil, which must remain mutually beneficial and always guided by respect and loyalty.
