PRESS RELEASE NO. 123
Israeli Attacks on the Gaza Strip
The Brazilian government deplores the new Israeli attacks carried out today, March 18, against areas in the Gaza Strip, including zones previously designated as safe, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, including a large number of children, in blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law.
While highlighting Israel's obligation, as the occupying power, to take the necessary measures to protect the civilian population in the occupied territories, Brazil urges the country to lift restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and to restore the electricity supply to the territory.
Brazil also calls on all parties to abide by the terms of the ceasefire agreement announced on January 15 and to urgently resume negotiations with a view to the permanent cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the establishment of a robust mechanism to guarantee the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid.
