PRESS RELEASE NO. 431
Israeli attacks in Lebanon
The Brazilian government condemns, in the strongest terms, Israel’s continued airstrikes against civilian areas in Beirut, southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley, which today alone have killed at least 492 people and injured more than 1,600 others. Brazil also deplores the statements by Israeli authorities in favor of military operations and occupation of parts of Lebanese territory. In addition, it expresses deep concern regarding calls by the Israeli government for Lebanese civilians to evacuate their homes in those areas.
Brazil renews its appeal to all parties to the conflict to immediately cease the attacks so as to end the worrying escalation of tensions, which risks leading the region to a conflict of large proportions, with severe negative consequences for civilian populations.
The Brazilian Embassy in Beirut remains fully committed to providing assistance and guidance to the Brazilian community, with which it stays in permanent contact. The Brazilian government is monitoring, with concern and attention, the impact of the conflict on the Brazilian community. Brazilian nationals are once again advised to leave the conflict area. If needed, they should contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ consular emergency at +55 (61) 98260-0610 (with WhatsApp support).
