PRESS RELEASE N. 92
Invitations to Paraguay and Uruguay to participate in the Brazilian Presidency of the G20
In the spirit of promoting a more representative perspective of developing countries, in particular MERCOSUR partners, in international forums, Brazil has invited Paraguay and Uruguay to participate in the G20 during the Brazilian presidency in 2024.
The G20, the main forum for international economic cooperation, does not have a permanent secretariat, and it is up to the group's rotating presidency to organize and conduct meetings, including the Leaders' Summit. Brazil will hold this position from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024. The G20 rotating presidency is also in charge of inviting countries that are not members of the Group to participate in the works of that year, in their own capacity or as representatives of regional organizations.
Paraguay and Uruguay will hold the pro tempore presidency of MERCOSUR in the first and second semester of 2024, respectively.
